Art theorist, culturologist, art critic. Published a number of monographs covering different aspects of contemporary art and new technologies, including such as "Todesbilder. Kunst, Subkultur, Medien" (Munich, 1995), "Internet fur Kunsthistoriker" (together with P.Tiedemann, Darmstadt, 1999), "Youth Countercultures. Subversive Style und Guerilla Consumption" (New York, 2004), "Encyclopedia of Youth Cultures" (in collaboration with R.Steinberg, New York, 2004). Author of research social projects ordered by different ministries and departments of Germany: "The Construction of Female Images of Representation in Computer Games" (HMWK, 1999-2001), "Uniform in Motion. The Process of Uniformity of Body and Clothing" (Institute of Cultural Anthropology, Dortmund University, 2002-05). Guest editor of various editions on contemporary art, incl. "Kunstforum International" (since 1998). Within the frameworks of "Kunstforum International" B.Richard together with S.Druehl prepared two issues dealing with the problem of genetics in art - "Klone und Mutanten" (157/2001), "Der erfundene Zwilling" (158/2002). Participated in different international symposiums and festivals of contemporary art and new technologies, incl. Ars Electronica (Advisory Board, Linz, 1998-2001), DEAF (Rotterdam), AERA (New York, San Diego, New Orleans), ASA (Chicago), ISEA (Paris, Bern, Vienna, Zurich), EMAF (Osnabrueck) and others. Delivers lectures; teaches the new technologies course at the Goethe University (Frankfurt, Germany). Author of numerous articles and essays on art history, contemporary art, new technologies and different problems of culturology.
